Wedding Website

BEN + TEMPIE | JULY 2, 2016

BACKGROUND

I am newly married to the loveliest woman on the planet this past July, and naturally we needed a website to relay information to our guests. Being the artist that I am I wanted this website to be an experience that by its design alone, told as much of a story about us as the content it presented.

IMPLEMENTATION

The website was designed almost entirely within Webflow, the same CMS WYSIWYG design tool I used to quickly put this site together, however it features some custom elements such as:

The website is hosted on the same DigitalOcean server as this site, and features a no‑frills standalone WordPress blog hosted at its /blog subdirectory.

WatchStock

INTUITIVE STOCK QUOTE WEBSITE DESIGN PROJECT

BACKGROUND

This website was made for my Netcentric Computing class project. Its theoretical purpose is to provide users with a convenient way of keeping up to date on their favorite stocks.

IMPLEMENTATION

I wrote it from scratch using PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript/jQuery with a MySQL database. I chose to go with a single-page design using AJAX for dynamic content loading during navigation.

EVI Unified Dashboard

UNIFIED PV DATA DASHBOARD FOR ELECTRIC VINE INDUSTRIES
papua, indonesia

BACKGROUND

The EVI Unified Dashboard is a web application I built for Electric Vine Industries (EVI), a sub‑company of Advancing Engineering Consultants. The project was started during my internship in Papua, Indonesia during the summer of 2015. The goal of the Unified Dashboard was to consolidate and display customized data views of EVI's solar plants.

Because I only had a few short weeks to work on the dashboard while in Indonesia, EVI offered me a 9‑month contract to finish the project remotely.

IMPLEMENTATION

The dashboard is written in HTML, CSS, JavScript/jQuery and PHP, with a MySQL database. Data is received through FTP uploads and secure cross-domain API cURL requests. Because of the confidential nature of this project the source code is not available publicly, however I would be happy to accommodate requests for it as best I can. Just send me an email at stoutb@spu.edu.

SixPence

Innovative Fundraising Startup

BACKGROUND

SixPence is a fundraising website and mobile application built from the ground up to simplify the fundraising process, making it as easy as handing a friend your spare change. SixPence operates on a new model of fundraising—rounding up to the nearest dollar on all of your daily purchases and donating this spare change to a campaign  of your choice.

The idea behind SixPence was thought of by a good friend of mine. We met together in the Fall of 2015 to discuss the idea and to pursue making it a reality. I heartily agreed to spearhead  its creation and in the late Winter of  2015, I organized and led a small team of students from Seattle Pacific University to begin its development.

IMPLEMENTATION

The website is built upon the CakePHP MVC framework, with a responsive Bootstrap front-end. It will use the Plaid Connect API for transaction tracking and Stripe for payment processing. It features phpMyAdmin for convenient database management, hosted at the db subdomain.

This website is still heavily a work in progress.

Third‑World ECG

Affordable 5‑lead electrocardiogram for hospitals of developing nations

BACKGROUND

For my Computer Engineering capstone project, I worked on a team of 4 other electrical and computer engineers to design and build an affordable, modular, and easily maintainable 5‑lead electrocardiogram (ECG). With help from a contact in Ethiopia, our ECG was built from the ground up to fulfill the demands of most third‑world hospitals.

IMPLEMENTATION

Our ECG was designed to incorporate easily‑replaceable and interchangeable components. Some of its key features include:

The software for it is written entirely in Python and uses the spidev, h5py, numpy, and pyqtgraph libraries.

About Me

Unconventional creator, coder and coffee connoisseur

What is it that drives you crazy? What is it that keeps you up at night? For me, that's a hard question to answer. For me, it's a wonder I sleep at all.

I am a recent graduate of Seattle Pacific University with degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and a minor in Electrical Engineering. I don't have a hard and fast plan for my future like most people say they do. Instead, I have a direction. Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and bulletproof, hyper-efficient algorithms are just a few of the things that captivate my mind. That's not all, though.

I'm also a:

  • coffee connisseur
  • avid hiker
  • PC enthusiast
  • adept mechanic
  • brother amongst 4 sisters
  • chronic list maker

Have a look around, and let's get in touch if you like what you see.
